Why the Westboro Baptist Church inspires me.
These people spread so much hate. Not just twords gay people, but Catholics, Jews, female pastors, Glenn Beck, and basically everybody who doesn’t believe in what they believe. They also have this website called GodSmacks! They basically take every horrible thing that happens around the country, and glorfiy as god either 1. inflicting his wrath because of how “nice” we are to gay people or 2. showing you that you shouldn’t mess with the Westboro Baptist Church.
They glorify natural disasters, to kidnappings, rape and murder, to public shootings, to people dying of old age. Yes, of old age. Two famous singers died with in a week of each other, both at the ripe old age of 95. 95! But since they were both divorced several times it was clearly a message from god. They thank god for dead soldiers and pray for more. I even saw in an interview once that a preteen boy said that they should have left the solider’s body “rotting in the desert”.
They’re going to protest at the memorial service for the victims of the Colorado shooting, thanking god for sending the shooter. They also hope more die. These people go all over the country protesting at showings of The Laramie Project, Churches that don’t agree with them or don’t reach their level of hatred and closed mindedness, solider’s funerals, famous people’s funerals, and if the Pope comes to speak they’ll be there.
They hold signs with the offensive gay slur “fag”, thanks to god for dead solider’s, Obama as the anti-christ, Santa as a messenger of satan, and lot’s of damnation.
They spread hate, hate, hate, hate, and more hate. Luckily for us they discourage the use of violence.
So why do these deranged people inspire me? Because I want to counter balance their message of hate with acceptance, kindness, and love. I want to be as gay as I possibly can be. I want to show them that love is more powerful than hate. And a natural disaster doesn’t mean god’s on their side. I want to show them that Americans can come together with love and support for the victims of the Colorado shooting, and for other tragedies.
And I’m going to. I’m going to make a difference. Even if it’s as small as making someone smile when they see my Tumblr posts.
