Romney says he’s against gay marriage because he reads the constitution to only apply to the people it was written for. Well, since The Constitution was written like 200 hounded years ago, it only applied to white, land-owning men.
If gay people aren’t allowed rights because of who The Constitution was written for, then people of color, women, and people who rent or lease homes/apartments would be denied the rights of The Constitution.
And yet, for Romney, it only applies to gay people.
Also, The Constitution technically didn’t apply to Mormons, because the government still declared polygamy illegal, because it didn’t fall under religious freedom since religious freedoms are granted only to old religious with traditions. Or basically to religious that the government likes at the time. Mormonism was hated and fear at the time The Constitution was written, so I’m not sure how many rights Romney would have had back then.
The writers of The Constitution also didn’t expect it to last very long. After all, it was Amended about a year or less later with the Bill of Rights.
